It still floors me that not a single person I encounter everyday in real life has any idea what Ska is. Even my so-called contemporaries. The Ska wave did happen in the late nineties, right? Or am I just imagining that it was a huge craze in the music world for at least a couple of years ( Read more... )

I liked CHRISTIAN ska. Hah! I still remember going to an Insyderz concert when I was 17. I liked Five Iron Frenzy, too. My freshman year at Christian college, they stuck five Erins on the same floor of my residence hall. So I called us the Five Erin Frenzy! :^P

That was one of the beauties of Ska! It could be adapted to just about any message and language, and it still sounded good!

... darlin, that was a revival. I had ska going when I was in high school, late 80s. Madness being one of the Big Names. If I recall, that was even a revival, and ska is actually older, evolved from Rocksteady.

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones was the beginning and end of my ska phase. I'm not that worldly, but I know what it is.

Other than the fact that it shows up in the NY Times crossword puzzle regularly I have no idea what ska is.

But that probably isn't a surprise.
