If you ever find yourself as ruler or despot of a country, remember that disenfranchising any portion of a population for silly reasons means your economy isn't running as efficiently as it could be, and you hurt the amount of tax revenue you receive every year.

That right there should be justification enough to provide equal rights for all.

If you're a despot doesn't this mean, pretty much by definitionn that everybody in the country has been disenfranchised?
