Ilán's Appointment at Children's Hospital

Feb 23, 2009 21:20

Today, Ilán had his appointment at Children's Hospital. His pediatrician had wanted us to go for what was assumed to be acid reflux, and for this funny wheezing sound he makes when he inhales which he thought was probably due to something with his trachea. I wasn't able to go to the appointment because three days ago I started back on Zoloft and ( Read more... )

Hey, you know... trying a different formula is a pretty harmless way to test and see if you've got a different problem than the one you've been treating so far. You can always try something else later if it doesn't help. Though I really hope that this is what he needs to get better! You've all had a rough road so far, I can imagine it'd be so refreshing to have a treatment turn out for the better.

Miss you guys, hopefully we'll be able to see ya this weekend. If not, for sure next!

Yes, it'd be very refreshing to have a treatment turn out for the better...but it seems to be doing just the opposite :( We took him to the doctor today because he's been absolutely terrible since Tuesday. Screaming his head off randomly and we can't calm him down. The doctor said the formula switch should've shown a difference by now, if it's going to, but to try it for a full week just in case but he's not too encouraged. Ugh.

Glad to hear that everything went good at the hospital. Glad its not something more serious. Hopefully the change of formula will help him out.

The formula change hasn't done anything :( In fact, things have only gotten worse. Today, the doctor said that if the formula was going to improve things, there should've been a difference by now. So I guess we're back to square one :(

My Mum says I was like Ilan when I was a baby, with reflux and stomach cramps and irritable bowels, etc. It turned out I was lactose intolerant, so they had to take me off milk or ordinary formula and put me on soy. She said the change on me was pretty obvious, and for the first time in my life I stopped screaming and slept through the night once they changed me to the other formula. Unfortunately, after that, I started teething ...

Interesting. We tried soy in December, and it made things worse. So they were thinking this hypoallergenic formula would do the trick, but it definitely hasn't :( Things have only gotten worse. We had to take him to the doctor today because he's basically been screaming his head off for four days.

I have noticed a couple of changes in Ilan over the last few days but unfortunately they aren't things that have lessened the screaming bouts. When I have been around him he hasn't had hiccoughs nearly as often (or at all) and I haven't heard his tummy loudly grumble while he's eating. Hopefully those things have made him feel a bit better. Like I said, I know these changes haven't helped the screaming or helped his parents get some much-needed rest but they do seem like small steps toward a solution. It's very sad to see Ilan in pain so much of the time. I am glad, however, that he isn't old enough to be thinking that he's going to feel this way the rest of his life. He's such a sweetie and Bonnie, you are so incredibly patient with him. Every day you amaze me!

Unfortunately, he had hiccups like four times yesterday :( I agree that I haven't heard any loud tummy rumbles while he's eating, though. And no, those things haven't helped us get much-needed rest, but YOU have helped us by watching Ilan so we can nap! I sleep so shitty at night that I just crash during the day, it sucks.

I try to be patient with him. I get more impatient with myself than with him, I think.
