I saw Voyage of the Dawn Treader last week.
It was ok. Not as great as LWW or as good as Prince Caspian. It felt like the editor was a little too free with the chopping knife. Also, it really didn't need to be in 3D as it was just as awesome to look upon in 2D. My friend and I viewed it in both to ensure that. (I'm of the theory that execs are spending too much on the 3D of movies and not enough on the other more important parts. For instance, Alice in Wonderland definitely suffered in the writing and plot. And don't even Get Me Started on Avatar [aka the RPG without a guide].)
But I still loved it to pieces. Reepicheep was AWESOME! I LOVE YOU SIMON PEGG! Eustace was absolutely perfect. Ben Barnes still hot, Edmund still a badass, Lucy still sweet. The Dufflepuds were hilarious. The Dawn Treader was beautiful. I didn't mind the whole quest of seven swords but it felt like a fic that hadn't gone to a beta reader first. I had too many logistical questions. Lucy's dialogue in the Goldwater cave was trite and cliche. Although, I thought Skandar did a lovely bit of non-verbal acting in that scene. If you watch him (which I did closely as I'm a bit Edmund-obsessive right now) you see how he's all up and angry and then after Lucy jumps in he looks almost little boyish again.
Seeing Voyage of the Dawn Treader reawakened my Narnia love. So I currently have multiple tabs open to multiple Narnia fics and have stayed up way too late multiple times reading them.
I have to recommend
Kingdoms Come by
Andi Horton. The story is set a few months after the coronation of the Four. They go and explore the surrounding nations and hear petitions from ex-patriate Narnians who want to resettle. I felt like I was reading another Narnia book written by CS Lewis. She manages to get that dreamy, happy quality that is infused through his works. Lovely, just lovely.
