CHARACTER INFORMATION
Canon Character: Garfield
Series: Garfield (comic-verse)
In-Game Name: Ensign Seaman Garfield Tabbis (as so it says on his forged papers...)
Age: 30 in feline/mental years, 7 in human. 8D;;;
Gender: Male
Ship: Victoria II
Position: Cook
Appearance: As all tabby cats go, Garfield is in all forms, your (almost) ordinary household feline. Blessed with noticeable orange fur with black stripes running down his back and tail and a rather nice budge in his tummy, the feline is also easily regarded as being 'overweight' (though he denies this fervently). He's not that notable on the streets, that is until you see him get up on his hind legs and walk about like nobody's business - in fact it can be augmented that the feline's a lot more flexible on two legs rather than four, though he's well with either form of movement. His claws are sharp (and also retractable, so no worries about accidental scratches) and his eyes are more often than not look rather dead, giving the cat a rather deadpan look.
Sometimes the feline also dresses up a little, going in disguise. Its a bit hard, and sometimes his disguises fail rather badly (like simply having his blanket tied around his neck and then calling himself 'The Caped Avenger', or hiding under it to be called 'Amoeba Man') but when he dresses up enough and speaks well, can pass rather nicely for a kid - a short, rather (notably orange) hairy kid, that is.
Personality: Fat, lazy, cynical and endearing. Those words are the embodiment of what Garfield is - the feline makes it his life's mission to sleep as much as he can through his whole life, besides his other missions of annoying the hell out of certain individuals (such as von Karma or Edgeworth) and eating all the food his grubby paws can lay on. He finds a certain sort of twisted (if one must call that) amusement in irritating those tensed up folks and would stop at nothing at getting back at people who've played their own tricks on him. He's a bit of a prankster with a penchant for mischief, thus sometimes getting himself into rather sticky situations from time to time, and its only with the help of unexpected people to get him out of whatever mess he got himself into.
Also somewhat of a gourmet, the feline while a ravenous and gluttonous eater usually, does in fact appreciate the fine delicacies of food, especially in regards to Italian food. He's rather protective of his food and gets irritated easily if anyone goes to mess it up or prevent him from eating his meals. He may be all sass and sarcasm, but Garfield does have a soft side - he treasures his teddy bear Pooky a lot, the stuffed bear being something that the feline salvaged from a dumpster and washed in the sea but is brought everywhere no matter where Garfield goes to. Wherever the feline goes, the teddy bear follows. Despite all that he might say though, Garfield does in fact have his own code of morals to abide on, albeit a tad twisted but still honorable enough for a cat.
Unlike most cats, Garfield doesn't mind dogs all too much, as long as they don't slobber over his food or disturb him. Sometimes though, he takes great pleasure in annoying the heck out of them, though more often than not his plans backfire on him and needs the untimely rescue by some kind-hearted soul. Although he is formal, Garfield still has a natural distrust of humans due to having been on the bad side of them for the majority of his life, but if you help him the feline does remember and will do anything he can to repay back your kindness.
Abilities/Weapons: Despite his girth, the feline is highly flexible and fast enough to dart about tight corners and jump to places usually out of reach. He is a tad clumsy from time to time though, and more often than not does his weight get in the way. His claws, sharpened frequently, can draw blood though Garfield has never done that before, and will never be willing to though he has destroyed furniture and clothes on occasions. Also, he can eat just about anything that's edible so long as A) It isn't raisins (or anything similar or close or related to that) and B) It won't make him sick.
...and of course, he can talk. That's what separates him from the other felines after all. In a good way or a bad way however, that is left for oneself to decide.
How well can your character hack?: Garfield's been slinking around enough to know about the journals and their functions, though he hasn't got up close with one until he got onto the Victoria II. He's got enough info in his head to do what the average user can do, though possibly with the time he has on his hands paws its likely that he could soon get better at using the functions of the journals.
Weaknesses: Garfield absolutely detests raisins, and is rather picky about his cat food. He has also been known to avoid snails, fruitcake, grapefruit and vegetables, especially during his occasional (forced) diets (which he detests). These are followed by hallucinations of some of his favorite foods following him around, asking to be ingested - usually a sign that his diets are pushing him to the brink of insanity (not that its uncommon though for him). The feline also has a paranoia fear over spiders and would either jump and act like a jumpy housewife or grab the nearest heavy item he can find and smack them flat. Also, he is very protective over his teddy bear and can get violent if anyone dares to spoil his precious stuffed toy, but he is not a fighter at all unless he absolutely has to, and that's when the claws come out. He's also rather sensitive over his weight, fervently denying that he's 'overweight' - he's just 'undertall', thank you very much.
And most of all, he hates Mondays to the point of condemning them. He's sure that every Monday is out there to get him. Somehow.
History: Garfield was born as... well, Garfield - he was one of the many kittens born in the kitchen of Bellcius's top Italian restaurant: the Mamma Leoni's Italian Restaurant. He weighed an astonishing five pounds and six ounces at birth (though he could still fit quite well into his small bed, oddly) and from young, displayed a passion (obsession, one could say) over Italian food and quite soon enough, fell in love over his now still ever-favorite lasagna. Life was pretty simple then, with nothing to do but roll around upon the well-kept floors of the kitchen and gobbling up whatever food he could lay his grubby little paws on. Until, the head chef was forced to choose between the young kitten or to close down the shop due to the sudden lack of pasta (and being in a notable debt for Garfield's feeding habits). The decision was obvious, and Garfield soon found himself sold to a pet shop.
His time at the pet shop was one of the most horrible times in his life. All the pets there were underfed, treated badly and abused often. Garfield found himself in the hands of a must abusive shopkeeper and within days, he was both broken in mind and spirit under the keeper's whip and by the lack of nourishment that he never treasured back at the restaurant. Other pets around him had also all long given up - and ironically, it was seeing the hopelessness in the other's eyes that gave the feline back his spirit and hope. Garfield pulled himself back together, always waiting and watching for an opportunity to break out of this prison and be free. The chance came a few months later, when the owner got himself drunk and forgot to lock the door to the shop; Garfield, having loosened his cage with the passing time, took the chance to free himself and the others and soon all the animals there fled the shop. It was a rather big event that took headlines for a while, but eventually died down in a month or two.
Now free and left to fend for himself, Garfield took to wandering the streets, a stray tabby whose orange and black fur attracted notable attention as he went down the streets of Bellcius. Despite the change in his life he somehow managed to feed himself well by scavenging and making use of his feline charms to charm soft-hearted people into feeding him, and managed to live rather well. Then soon, there was an incident that would change his life forevermore. That day, the feline had taken to try his luck in scavenging from one of the restaurants in the area; fortunately for him, one of the chefs was kind enough to give him food from the day's leftovers.
The feline, being the glutton he was, immediately pounced on the chance to satisfy his craving hunger by eating said things. What he didn't know was that within those leftovers contained shards of mana crystals from a broken necklace and a pair of small earrings from one of the richer customers who had left them there earlier on and by accident, got mixed into the leftovers - they small shards, but potent enough to cause a change within him. After he ate that, the feline soon fell ill - deadly ill, with a dangerously high fever for about a week and with nobody to help him, all hope seemed lost... however... Garfield managed to pull through and had a speedy recovery. After that though, his life had changed completely.
He soon discovered that he could talk, and then later could walk like any other human being on his hind legs - all most likely due to the mana crystals he had unknowingly eaten that had caused this change within him. With this strange new ability, Garfield used it to his advantage to get more food to eat - and indirectly attracted some unwanted fame to him. Greedy people had their eyes on this special feline, wanting to use him for the sake of earning some quick money, and plotted to kidnap (or in this case, catnap) him. So the time came when Garfield was around the docks and a group of people with not-very-nice intentions were putting on their plan to seize the cat, which they succeeded all too quickly after a few kicks and punches. However, the feline managed to escape them but not without a couple of bruises and injuries that forced the feline being able to wander to the safety of the docks before he blacked out.
When he came to, Garfield found himself in an unfamiliar room - in one of the many resting rooms of a nearby veterinarian. Fortunately for the feline, he had been found an hour or two later when he'd blacked out and taken there by a kind soul. The head doctor took pity on him and thus treated him despite him being a stray. The feline only stayed there until he healed up before leaving the place, taking to roaming the streets again - or more specifically, the docks. After that incident, Garfield developed a slight natural distrust of humans and decided that living the life outside would suit him better; he also stayed around the docks, seeing as there seemed to be safer than the streets itself.
Living around there for a while, he soon got acquainted with the many sailors and travelers that passed by the place, and from them picked up tales of the infamous ship of Ivona, the Victoria II. Interest piqued, the feline pressed on for details about the ship and easily learned about the crew - the admiral, the first mate, everyone. Somehow this stirred a sense of adventure inside him, and Garfield decided to go aboard this ship and see for himself. To that he used his extensive knowledge about the underground (being a cat, one tended to know about things humans wouldn't hear) plus some nice spare cash (this involved a drunken royal that he'd encountered in the docks - amazing how much humans could babble with just a sip of rum) and managed to apply for forged papers, which soon came (via the addresses of one of the houses near by - ironically, it turned out to be Hijikata's, the main reason why no suspicions were raised about the papers at all, though the man never knew what hit him). When the ship returned to Bellcius for the Lunasa season, Garfield took the first opportunity he got and slunk onto the ship, ready to embark on an adventure of a lifetime.
