John Morton, Pennsylvania. Often described as being of Swedish descent, which is technically correct. Finland at that time was a province of Sweden. Martti Marttinen, John's grandfather, was born deep in central Finland.

This guy? Of whom it’s interesting to note that the German WP article is longer than both the English and the Finnish, hmm.

Vaguely tangentally, I met a Finland-Swede for the first time at a wedding a couple of days ago. Yay culturally productive ethnic minorities.

That one, yes.

There is, I'm afraid, some historical resentment towards the Swedish-speaking population of Finland. They are still (with some validity) seen as representatives of conqueror power who made themselves into an upper class.

It's only a thousand years since that happened.
