A one-eyed black cat with a white bib just knocked on the door.

Knocked. On the door.

I did not let him in, neither did I ask what he was offering me. I just looked from the window and waited till he walked off.

He walked to the back entrance and tried to pull it open.

Jellicle Cats come one come all:

The Jellicle Moon is shining bright -

Jellicles come to the Jellicle Ball.

Rather close to half waxing, the moon is.

You really should have let him in. How do you know he will not be entertaining and useful if you don't?

If he comes back, please let him in.

Despite my occasional pretensions to the contrary, I am really a frightened materialist.

Fortunately they are self-centered enough not to try to educate me too intensively.

I haven't heard from my last good (now, alas) ex-boyfriend in awhile. If his dog has died, he probably would become a cat. A black cat with a bib is highly likely. He's already one-eyed and sings the blues. Definitely worth letting inside, though he'll prefer the barn. Efficient, hardworking, cuddly. Or he might still be living in Ithaca as a human. I put nothing past him.

There's not as much prey to be hunted in the barn these days as long ago when the farm was still in production, I'm afraid.

He does okay on frozen piroghi or pizza. Scraps of people food should do him as a cat. He does not like greens. Even nice ones with dressing. I'm not sure that even as a cat he'd eat raw mice. I had to bully him into handling them.

As in: Pick up the mouse by the base of the tail. You have a glove on. It can't bite you. Squeeze its abdomen. Is it a boy or a girl? Drop it in the appropriate bucket.

Though how he got to Finland is a story I'd love to snuggle up to him and hear.
