I have fond memories of The Witch of Blackbird Pond, but my favourite book of Elizabeth George Speare's is Calico Captive. I don't know if you've read it, but I at least appreciated that the heroine, Miriam, is stubborn, grouchy, and often selfish, and that the ending was interestingly bittersweet.

I haven't read Calico Captive, but will happily add it to my TBR! Prickly female protagonists and bittersweet endings are great selling points.
