In which I question if I am doing the right thing and you tell me your opinion

I am not the best when it comes to making decisions.  I'll get there, but usually there's a great deal of dithering and second-guessing.  Lately I've been dealing with a doozy - what to do about Slappy.  Perhaps it would help to know what Slappy is ( Read more... )

I'd agree with your first instinct and the friend. When he feels he's done, he'll stop eating and make his desire clear. Just don't mask his instincts with painkillers, etc.
Sounds like he's had a great life! That's quite old for such a big dog! No need for regrets.

I just wanted to add that my instinct was based on the thick green oozy vomit that I saw shortly after we had given him the chicken treats...but if that was a one time thing, then yeah, wait.

As others have posted... You'll know when it's time. Dogs have clues, and an emotional attitude that changes as the "time" comes along. For now, enjoy the times that you have left with him.
