So for the second time in my life, I’m being threatened with a law suit. This time is far more ludicrous than the first.

Uh, what? I don't think anyone is allowed to sue you for NOT SIGNING A CONTRACT. They are either morons or they think you are morons and that threatening you with a lawsuit will make you back down.

That is messed up! Seems wrong that they sprung a addendum to the deal at the last minute and expect people to just take it as is.

If you have a real estate agent, I'd ask her/him what your response should be.

If you did all this without a real estate agent, I'd assume it's a standard method of screwing with people who don't have a real estate agent.

In either case, I imagine that they're not in an ideal bargaining position if the house is now legally yours.

We have a great agent. :) Unfortunately, she can't really give us legal advice. We have a call in to a lawyer to see whether they're full of shit or if they have some sort of grounds to pull this crap.

Either way, whatever! I'm going to buy paint.
