I finally walked away from the annoying on/off relationship with a certain 'love of my life' I've mentioned before.

The truth is I've never had a situation like that before (I call it, rather predictably, the 'Ross and Rachel effect' after the characters in that tedious Friends love storyline) and was always bored by people who insisted on flogging
