House Hunting

Apr 05, 2008 13:18

I know I haven't written in this thing, but I so rarely have news that is worthy of writing down in my LJ. As a bit of backstory, Caroline has been working towards getting into medical school since we've been married. Unfortunately, her she did not get into med school on her first attempt, so she got into a post-bac, pre-med masters program. ( Read more... )

Looks pretty nice. Grats :)

I like the bathtub built for 2.

It'll be nice to have a usable tub in general. Living in Japan makes you appreciate a good bath.

Everyone, including myself, was surprised it worked. I wasn't expecting them to come down as much as they did.

I'm no expert on houses (I just live in one), but you might want to make sure you get the house inspected... if they were willing to drop that much, there might be something wrong with it.

Like it's on a pirate burial ground or is a hellmouth. Or maybe founded on an alter to Cthulu.

It's florida law that it has to be inspected before it can close. But considering it's a new home, I don't know how much there can be wrong with it.

Congratulations!

Now, of course, everyone will be asking you the same questions they ask us (and we don't even have a house!)- when are you having kids? ;)

Oh, in about 8-10 years.

Good answer! Maybe they'll leave you guys alone then :)

It's really good to hear from you again.

I feel odd blogging basic stuff, and since this is the biggest news since, well, I got married, I figured I'd blog it.

We loved it from the minute we saw it. But we almost never went through it. The sales associate for the properties didn't think we'd like it because we had issues with another house with the same floorplan. Fortunately, this house fixed all the issues we had with the other one.

All in all, it was probably our third favorite floorplan, and it didn't have tray ceilings like a couple other houses, but everything else just blew the competition out of the water.

Ha, I don't even know what tray ceilings are (good thing I'm not buying a house then I guess? Or maybe it's vaguely irrelevant...)
...but I dig that house, especially the cool window stylings. You were lucky to grab it up the way you did; kudos for the mad bargaining 5k1LLz0rz! :P

Tray ceilings are just recessed parts of the ceiling that are purely decorative, though I suspect they may add to the acoustics of the room as well. Basically, cut a box out of the ceiling, and that's a try. A google image search will provide more examples.

Congratulations, the house looks great. Now's the perfect time to be house-shopping in the US. Almost makes me wish I were there (and employed enough to buy a house).

Yeah, it's totally a buyers' market. Considering we know the value of the lot, I really doubt I could build the house for the remainder of what we paid. I'd even wager that we got it for less than it cost to build it.
