Epic computer fail

So, I was playing fallout 3, when the game crashed and I booted to the desktop, but I was in 800x600 and 16 color mode. Uh oh, so I restarted, and it complained that my CHIP fan was dead (I confirmed such), but I booted anyway, which then crashed halfway through boot. It might be registry files corrupt. Boot to a linux CD and go copy the latest backup files over. It should boot again, at least.

As for new computers... not much.

That's a dilemma. My windows machine is also falling apart, but I'm trying to keep it together until i7 has been around a while longer.

In a perfect world, that would happen just as Windows 7 was released to glowing reviews about how it fixed all of vista's flaws :)

My linux machine is a core 2 quad Q6600 with a P35 based motherboard. Fast and stable for almost a year!

I don't know anything about the i7, but I've been running vista 64 with a core 2 quad for about a year with no issues.
