Okay, so clearly I am already so completely in love with this. Your Matt characterization, his relationship to his dad and the town, and everyone. I love this 'in between' of where we left all these folks after State, and where we picked up in The Last Days Of Summer. And that is such a great *moment* to split up Matt and Julie, an exact second where things change, where they realize that their lives *have* to change someday, inevitably. (Are you the one I had a lengthy conversation with about that, a couple of weeks ago?) I also completely see Matt going right into the army. There are so many reasons for it, the Daddy Issues not being the least of them.
And oh, what Smash said, about buying one gift for two occasions? ("No class. No style.") LOL, it seems like something that would be Waverly's exact reaction. And a lesson he'd learned for life!
