Tea tasting 4 - "Earl Grey Moonlight"

Mar 18, 2010 14:36

An Earl Gray blend with "flavor added" I entered this with some trepidation.

The leaves look like traditional Earl Gray: tight, nearly-black, long and thin, with a bit of lavender blossoms. The unusual part is the strong aroma of vanilla, which is part of the flavor add.

The leaves bloom to small flat pieces, they are apparently ripped and then tightly rolled. The liquor is a robust brown.

The aroma is a sort of odd combination of the flavor oil and tea. The vanilla flavor does interact with the lavender in a way, but I'm not altogether sure that it is good. They are both in the realm of light, bright, brisk, sweet flavors. The tea however is far down in the earthy & astringent. Perhaps it was overbrewed, but they do not complement each other.

I would give this tea, overall, a 4, with the possibility it will trend upwards in a later tasting.
