The title's Pan Tadeusz, and yep, I did.

It is set in Poland, just before Napoleon's war with Russia. The Poles hope he will succeed, as they currently are under [Russia's] yoke. It is the story of a young fellow, Tadeusz, and also about family, relationships, and war.

There is a family feud, and Tadeusz is the son of one side, and there's a daughter of the other. Kind-of Romeo and Juliet-ish, but with a happy ending, and less focus on the romance which made me sad. Also, the actor who plays Tadeusz is stunningly attractive, so that helps *grin*

Throuout the whole thing there is a strange mixture of "modern" costume (the styles of France at the time) and "local" clothes, some of which are clearly recognizable from 16th and 17th centuries. I really enjoyed that too.
