Read a Sonnet, Hug a Tree

POETRY! I was so ignorant that it's funny. This weekend I learned what a sonnet is. This is my first one, so you can laugh at it. I had so much fun writing it anyway. If you aren't very familiar with sonnets, please notice that there are exactly 14 lines, certain line endings actually rhyme, every other syllable is stressed (te Ta, te Ta), and ( Read more... )

This weekend I learned what a sonnet is

why kelsey clemans. you mean DON'T remember every single thing I ever said in the Rhetoric classroom. I believe I was sitting in Mrs. Whalen's class during that LOOOOOONG stretch of Englsh romantic poetry (which I will NOT be repeating next year) and made some comment on Italian vs. English sonnet forms. Or maybe it was during the discusson of "dolce et decorum est" which is also, I believe, in sonnet form.

Guess I need to remember what Pastor Marc always says - they are only gonig to remember about 10% of what you say.

glad you are enjoying your sonnets! I liked yours about Beth very much!

yes, but I didn't enjoy the English Romantic poetry very much and so most of it went right over my head. =) I think it was good to get expose to it though- I mean, I started hating Shelley, etc. ;-) haha (actually, I'm liking those romantic poets a whole lot better this time around; I'm realizing that writing poetry is hard)

I'm so glad you liked my sonnet!
Mr. Wilson told me today that "overcomes" does NOT rhyme with "numb." Oops. Oh well.

change it to 'envy will o'ercome' or 'envy must o'ercome' and then it WILL rhyme with numbs.

hasn't he ever heard of 'slanted rhyme' (i think that's what they call it when it 'nearly rhymes')

mrs. r.

i think we will be doing a poem a week, that way more people will have a chance of enjoying it.
