nothing stands between us here

It's time for another round of room exploring with Noatak and Lu Ten!

Lu Ten is taking the lead this time, half humming, half singing a few snatches of songs under his breath. He can't remember more than a few lines of each of them, so in the end it's just a jumble of random folk songs, popular tunes, and snippets of a few picture shows.

Scooting his chair around closer to Noatak, he strokes at his scars in what he hopes to be a reassuring manner. "Course they did. Where'd you pick up how to do that, anyway? A brief stint in a historical play as Fire Lord Zuko?" he teases good-naturedly.

Noatak's probably going to be hanging on to that teapot for a while, so he leans back slightly to check the one still on the narrow counter, next to the stove - and is pleasantly surprised when lifting the lid lets loose a small cloud of jasmine-scented steam. Sure enough, when he sets it on the table to check, the tea is fresh and still piping hot. The two cups abandoned on the table look cleaner than anything else he's likely to find in the clutter, so he quietly pours them both a cup.

"You know, I used to fantasize about those scars," he confesses in a low voice.

"Hardly--I would have, though. I must have read every biography of him that exists. There was a firebender in my circus with fake scars as part of his act. He taught me." A few other useful skills, as well.

Noatak sucks in a breath, and he has to make an effort to keep his eyes from going wide again. It's one thing to know the Lieutenant is attracted to him--it's quite another for him to say so, sitting right next to him, seconds after he had gently touched Noatak's face.

Quite another thing for Lu Ten to trust him so much.

"How so?" he asks, quietly.

"A Zuko fan, huh? Let me guess, you were seeking inspiration for your oratory skills," he smirks, fondly. Of course, anyone who's read enough about Fire Lord Zuko knows the man's reputation among his friends as a notoriously awkward speaker. "Is that how you found out you wanted to come to Republic City?"

Wow he sure blurt that out without thinking, way to be reassuring Lu Ten. Flushing, he ducks his head, busies himself with a drink of--

--splutter of tea. "I, uh-" he stares frantically up at Noatak, that smug sexy Water Tribe jerk. "You know, just- I- how else do people fantasize about things? Touching, and... kissing, and-" being the only person Amon would allow such intimacy with "This isn't funny," he pouts, blushing furiously.

"Heh. Where else would I go?" He sips at his tea--oh, this is uncomfortable with a ruined lip. Hn.

He brushes the droplet of tea off his collar, and it's only after that that he thinks of waterbending. He--won't. Not here. Not with Lu Ten.

Noatak watches him, keeping his gaze, and he's not laughing at him. Not nearly. "My scars are real, here." He's very aware of Lu Ten's flush. His eyes. His heart. "This may be your only chance."

Lu Ten's brain fizzles, weakly. What's he-?

"You have other scars, now," he points out in a low voice, pulling off a glove and reaching up to brush his fingertips over his face nonetheless, watching carefully for any sign of discomfort in his blue eyes. Although it's even less likely he'll ever get to touch those other scars, run his hands down Noatak's back as he--

Biting his lip, he withdraws his hand a fraction of an inch. "Careful, Noatak," he chides with a warning smile. "You sure you want to tease me like this?"
