So I went to see the Believers Never Die tour last night and that was a good time.
Fall Out Boy were my favorites, as ever. Incidentally, this was my 5th time seeing Cobra Starship, my 4th time seeing Fall Out Boy, my 3rd time seeing Metro Station, my 2nd time seeing All Time Low (because I didn't actually go watch their set at Warped last summer), and my 1st time seeing Hey Monday. Breaking it down like that amuses me, okay?
Hey Monday was pretty fun and at least more enjoyable than I found their cd. Cassadee really is quite adorable and enthusiastic. It makes me sad that I don't much care for her band's music.
All Time Low was pretty good musically, as I like their sound, and they're nice enough to look at, but I could have done without them speaking. At all, pretty much. Lol band of pedos. Pete came out with them at the beginning, shirtless, with a fake 8-pack drawn onto his abs in marker. Lolololol Pete.
Cobra was good, even though it was pouring down rain during their set. I was near the front of the pit by this point, so I didn't get rained on too terribly much as I was edging under the overhang. Gabe tried to convince the crowd to mosh and the response was a pretty resounding "fuck no". Mud does not, in fact, make moshing more exciting, Gabe. You are wrong. Cassadee came out and was adorable during Bring It, doing a silly dance with Vicky-T and sharing her mic. ♥them♥ They played "Pete Wentz is the only reason we're famous" and I liked it even better live than I did when I listened to the mp3 a while back. Cobra Starship, ilu. Finish that cd soon, please?
Metro Station was... Metro Station. I've heard the reports from people who went to earlier dates on the tour how horrifying they found Trace Cyrus, and I thought they were exagerating, because I've seen the band perform before and he wasn't that bad. I would never exactly have called Trace attractive but he didn't, like, burn my eyes to look at him or anything. But he actually has gotten disturbingly unattractive. It's like a thousand times worse than when I saw them last summer, which was already a little worse than when I saw them a few months before. So, yeah, I tried not to look at Trace too much. The rest of the band is still fairly enjoyable to watch (though Mason was way cuter when he was still shy) and I enjoy their music, though they really need to make a new cd because I'm getting bored of this one.
Man I love FOB a lot. Just thought I'd put that out there. For all of the opening bands (even Hey Monday, wtf?) the pit was terrible. Not just rough and wild, because I expect that, but incredibly fucking rude and even more squashed than I'm used to. Fucking ATL/MS fans. >:( I think I managed to forget that they both have a lot of really shitty fans and combining them was the worst possible idea. I rode it out though and made it up to at least get a hand on the barrier for stability, so that was good, and the pit was much much more pleasant during FOB's set. Yay FOB fans!
The heavy-handed proselytizing wasn't nearly as annoying as I was expecting, so that was good. Joe and Andy appeared to have both somewhat tamed their unfortunate facial hair situations, which was a welcome surprise. Joe had less hair on his chin than his head, and that's all I ask. Joe was very subdued for most of the set. I couldn't see him that well from where I was, but I didn't notice any spinning or anything. :( Idk, maybe he wasn't feeling well or something? According to his twitter, he got some tattooing done on his leg the day before, so maybe that was what was slowing him down. Pete was in fine form; the whole band was, really.
I think my favorite exchanges of the night were
Patrick: So what's the word of the day?
Pete: Fuck yeah! [makes crowd repeat several times]
Patrick: I think that's two words.
Pete: So you guys are wet, but I think we can get you even wetter.
Patrick: [stares at Pete wordlessly with a blank expression for a very long time]
Pete: I think you should do your medley.
Patrick: It's not my medley, it's your medley. But I'll sing it for you.
They are the most adorable BFFs.
And Pete intro'd "What A Catch, Donnie" by saying he wanted to cut his eyes out and cut Patrick's eyes out and switch them so they could look at each other. That's love right there. Psychotic love. :)
Oh, and after they told us that they'll be back in August with Blink 182 (and also Panic at the Disco, coindidentally \o/), Patrick started introducing "Patron Saint of Liars and Fakes" with something along the lines of "The last time we played with Blink, I think we probably played this song". When he got done there was a moment of awkward silence, then Pete told him to do it again so they could go straight into the song as soon as he finished the intro. Patrick gave him a dirty look and started trying to repeat himself, fumbled the line hopelessly twice, gave up and walked away, re-entered the spotlight and gave it one last try (which he still got backwards actually) and they went straight into it from there. So ridiculous. ♥ Even though I hurt more upon leaving that pit than I ever have any other, I still would happily do it every single day. Yeah, I know I'm weird.
So, I'm definitely going to go to the Blink 182/FOB/PatD show on August 20th. I haven't decided yet if I want to buy floor/seat tickets or just go light and do lawn for that one. I have a feeling the Blink 182 fans are going to be a touch... exuberant. I suppose it mostly depends on if I can get cheap tickets through a presale or not.
ktprincesswitch and
silva_draconis have zero interest in the massacre that will be every inch of space near the stage, but
fadafordqt wants to come up for the show and would probably gladly risk it with me. Guess I'll have to wait and see.
