Oh my gosh you guys, EUROVISION.

As some of you may have noticed, I adore the Eurovision Song Contest. Why? I'm not entirely sure. Some of it may be my unabashed love of Europop, while some of it is probably the way it seems kind of like (as Moto puts it) a microcosm of European politics

The best Eurovision band ever was Lordi. HARD! ROCK! HALLELUJAH! \m/ (>_<) \m/

Picking the least impressive contestant seems to be endemic to some countries. People in the UK have complained about it for ages: they have a really strong music scene, with tons of successful bands coming out of the British Isles and going on to international success...but the UK Eurovision people inevitable choose some mediocre folk-poppy act that nobody will ever hear from again after the contest to represent the country.

Dude. Lordi brought the beat and the spectacle. Of course they were the best band ever.

I feel like part of the problem with the UK is that they're one of the biggest contributors to the EBU, and are thus guaranteed a place in the final regardless of whether or not their song is actually any good.
