I think he's referring to way back when he stole the TARDIS and left Gallifrey. They're two people who didn't fit in and I look forward to them having a conversation about that.

I really have to look more deeply into classic Who and background history at some point.

I definitely look forward to conversations between those two indeed. Then again, the Doctor has a knack for running away from anything too personal... we'll see. In any case, S5 so far has grabbed my interest, and I can't wait to see where it's gonna take us all.

When Amy asked Eleven if he'd ever run away from something because he was scared or not ready, and he said yes, a long time ago... what was he referring to?

The Untempered Schism. At least that's what I believe. Firmly.

Remember, in The Sound of Drums, the Doctor told Jack and Martha about how all Time Lords had to look into the Untempered Schism at age 8 - "Some would be inspired. Some would run away. And some would go mad." He's talking about the Master, of course.

Then Martha asks him what he did, and he says, like it's a silly question and should have been obvious, "Oh, the one that ran away. I never stopped."

When Amy asks him, and he says he ran away just once, a long time again, she then asks him "What happened?" and he says "Hello?!" - again like it's a silly question. I think in his mind, he started back then, and he's still running.

Of course, we know that he's run away from many things since *coughJACKcough*, but I think to him, it's all still part of that first time.

Hm. Yes, I remember that bit. You're right, that'd fit. And yes, *coughJackcough* did come to mind, too. ;) But the untempered schism is more likely.

Yes, I really think that was what he was referring to. He ran away from jack, too - even admits it in Utopia, but i think to him, that's just a sub-task of the bigger thing - running from the Untempered Schism and what it represents.

I'm really glad you liked the episodes! I'm still ambivalent about Eleven - he really doesn't feel like the Doctor to me - and I didn't much care for TBB, but I do like Amy a lot.

Now, about that Jack/Ten fic... *g*

I'm gonna have to rewatch old Ten/Jack eps to get myself back into Ten/Jack mood. Watching eps with Ten! Me! Oh the torture. *g*

Yes, I was pleasantly surprised too that I like Eleven. He hasn't done much to my muse though, but I'm still enjoying it muchly, as is my brother who is an Old School Who fan.

I think that the Doctor was refering to running away from his home world.

And I do like Amy, very much! She's like Donna in a way. And I also liked the fact that they hugged!

My Muse is staying equally silent on S5 so far. Maybe I need more time. Or maybe I'm just so infatuated with Ten that I can't see beyond him in writing. Only time will tell, I suppose. In the meantime, I feel all right. I'm enjoying the new eps, and when I need a fix of Ten's era, there's always the DVDs. ;)

When Amy asked Eleven if he'd ever run away from something because he was scared or not ready

I assumed he was refering to Ten running from Ood Sigma's calling him at the end of WoM and begining of EoT. But then my memory tends only to remember the very last one, so I'm sure there are many other things. His gesture to himself when she asked about the consequences would kind of point to that too though I guess, as in, new body!

Also yay for liking Eleven! Somehow my head had missed the lack of thinking the Doctor is perfect on account of being left for 14 years. Not sure how I missed that... but it will add something to their relationship.

Funny how many different possibilities there are for what Eleven was referring to. :) It's true that Ten did run away from Ood Sigma. And good point, re.his new body.

Yes, the Doctor making Amy wait for twelve then another two years puts Ten's whole five and a half hours back into perspective, doesn't it? ;) It should add something to their relationship indeed, and probably help Amy take him off his pedestal, should ever climb onto it. In fact, she already did, when she acted as she wished instead of being completely fazed by his decision to take her home because she made one single mistake.
