Olympics: Fencing
A sweep by the USA Women's Sabre team! All three medals go to individuals in sabre! This makes the first time that's happened in Olympic history, and we got two medals in 2004!

A new addition
Excitement knows no bounds sometimes, even if the object of that excitement is slightly silly. For those who weren't aware, I've wanted to collect 茶碗 (chawan, or Japanese tea bowls) for ages. An interesting question
As I was reading some of my communities, someone asked: "For people that have lived in Japan, is their culture centered around the child at all? I know in history, kids weren't as important as the adults, ("Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater," kids= farm labour, so on) but that has clearly changed (at least in the US). Surprises and meaning
Yesterday someone who means a great deal to me did something I'm incredibly grateful for. I had been having a hard week, just feeling unhappy all the time, and this person cleared all of Thursday by staying up late Wednesday night, just to come see me.

Upon reflection

Why is it that Alka-Seltzer only tastes good when you have a cold, or some sort of nasal congestion? It's delicious. I have now taken enough medicine to hopefully knock out a horse. I've been trying to sleep and it's not been working.
