I wanted to end it in a way that I could go back and do more if inspiration strikes but I also wanted it to kind of stand alone incase inspiration doesn't come.
This was awesome! I love the manipulative slave, but I can't even blame him for being manipulative - he's just hunting down a better life. I agree that the master might stop being such a sweetheart, but then again, maybe not? I wonder how the slave would do with someone he didn't even need to manipulate because he's actually a kind person? The fact that it seems like there are other serving-people in the house indicates that maybe the master has had masterly experience before. Hmm...
To be honest I have not completely decided on the master. He is either just a kind person who doesn't need to be manipulated, or he's like that guy who picks up stray cats only he picks up abused slaves and especially ones he sees abused because of him or I have even considered that he knows the slave is playing him from the start and plays along. I really don't know I just have this little bit in my head.
Brilliant! This nameless slave captivated me from first to last. I especially love the way he could "locked up" his self-esteem, and I love his admirable ruthlessness in procuring a decent master for himself.
I also love his clear-eyed realism as he decides that even this compassionate new master may become a more 'normal' slave owner--and yet, I'm betting that this slave will find a way to make sure his new master keeps behaving!

And hee, what an expertly manipulative slave. Tripping up the potential master is quite a move. :P
