Okay, so we watched all of Torchwood. Well, we actually did a couple of nights ago, but this is my first chance to post about it. I’m still wrapping my brain around it and how the hell they are going to do a fourth series.
It seems that RTD is doing the same thing to Captain Jack that he did to 10. Jack has lost his friends, his hub and his love. Nowhere else to go but up to the stars. Not as gut wrenching at 10's story, but still, ya gotta feel for the guy. Most surprising was the death of Ianto, but I suppose that was necessary for Jack to really feel like his had lost everything. So, if there will be a series four, it will need to be re-jigged. Cause clearly, no hub and practically no cast left. Maybe Martha (yes I know the actress is doing Law & Order UK) & Mickey could join the ranks of Torchwood?
protegeboy asked me if had watched it for a second time yet. He knows I tend to watch stuff more than once. I have not, as it was so sad. I will watch it again, but not right away. It is another reminder that all things Who are going to change. I was shocked by the death of Owen & Tosh at the end of series two. Did they really have to kill Ianto too? Sigh.
But, that aside, yes it was good. It had that creepiness factor that RTD is very good at. I liked that Gwen addressed the fact that the Doctor wasn't there. I was wondering myself, earth is a brink of destruction and the Doctor is not there?!? So I'm glad Gwen said something. I also like that we are reminded that Captain Jack is not a clear-cut hero. While he turned Torchwood around after Canary Warf, he took partook in the previous evil incarnation of the organization. He is not guiltless, his hands are dirty. This is something that was hinted at before -- but he is not the same type of hero that the Doctor is. While they have both regretted things they have done, Jack is more violent. He's not afraid to shoot and ask questions later. I liked Gwen's realization of what Jack had done, that his actions caused the aliens to come back and she still wanted him to stay.
RTD did it again. He wrote a thought provoking, gut wrenching story arc. I don't know whether fans should hug him or hit him for it.
