First up, a fun meme from
dangermonki Lover
I'm not telling your actual score. Hmph!
The Lover (or Poet) is a rare type. (S)He has a rather contradictory
nature. He is completely unselfish and generally regards others above
himself, yet somehow in his effort to please, often ends up doing
things that appear completely self-centered. The Lover loves people and
strives for acceptance, but at the same time withdraws from the world.
Lovers are authors, artists, philosophers, and musicians. They live
unorthodox, unconventional, or even chaotic lives. Lovers experience
the highest highs and lowest lows.
The Lover's complement is the hardened, unhesitant
Warrior.
My test tracked 2 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:

Ok Cupid, home of the
32-Type Dating Test Hey, Monki, we got the same type! Big surprise there, huh? :P What's funny is that Mike would probably fall under the Warrior or King category at a guess anyway, so I suppose I definitely found my complement. Not that I need a silly meme to tell me that. :P
Yesterday was the first day I could get out of the house after 4 or 5 days of sickness house arrest, and of course I began my day out with a trip to the doctor's office. She agreed with me that there's nothing really wrong with me at this point, but the concern of course is being on an airplane for 12+ hours. So now I feel like one of those allergy commercial poster children with my various prescription nasal sprays and antihistamines and so on. As long as my head doesn't feel like it wants to explode when we're up 35,000 feet in the air, that's all that matters to me.
I can't really believe that we're leaving in two days. I feel so incredibly out of place with the calendar--it was like both of us getting sick over an approximately two week period was just time removed from reality. Both of us just lost days to basically nothing from the experience, and all the resolutions we'd set up for cleaning the house big-time, and being way ahead on our packing and our trip itinerary reservations and such just got lost in the ether. But we're still on track to get basically everything packed tonight. I'm behind on all the cleaning as usual, but I am doing the laundry, so that counts for something. There's only a few more necessary loads to do, and a couple of piles of clean clothes to put away, then we can get down to the business of deciding what to take. And I can proceed to argue further with Mike about the fact that two pairs of shoes for 2 weeks is not in the female handbook, no matter what the one-bag-per-trip websites say otherwise. The best he can do is expect to hold me to 3 pairs--1 pair sneakers for walking about town, 1 pair hiking boots for the national parks, and 1 pair of nice shoes for evenings out. We'll see who wins the argument in the end, but I'm betting heavily on myself. :P
There's also the question of cd player vs. mp3 player purchase. Mike does have an mp3 player somewhere, but it's not iPod, it's Creative Labs (Mike has this thing about not purchasing something just because it's trendy--it has to be the best overall product on the market, and he's all about Creative Labs over Steve Jobs needing more money). But I have this thing about playlists--I'm really specific about having things in the EXACT order I want them, and the way his mp3 player is set up is by artist-specific playlists. Um, no thank you. Burning cds and lugging my ancient discman seems a lot easier than hassling with trying to fix the playlist issue in the Zen Micro, plus trying to balance out whether Mike gets it or I do at any given time on the trip. There is the possibility of heading back to Best Buy and picking up an iPod Nano or something equivalent for me for $100, but tha'ts $100 less for us to spend in Australia. Argh.
I also bought some cds yesterday, specifically for the trip. I hit two of the student-patronized used cd shops in town, and somehow ended up coming home with a lot of big band purchases for $12 and less per cd. I also picked up the first Black Rebel Motorcycle Club album, which is just as good as
deepredbelle described it. And I will probably grab the new Neko Case album from B&N on my membership discount before I go, since we'll probably need another book stop for Mike, the world's fastest reader, before we leave on Friday evening. Plus, I've got my fingers crossed that the two cds I ordered on Amazon Marketplace on Sunday evening will make it here by Friday so they come with. *is still completely stoked she picked up Caroline Lavelle for $4, and managed to track down HMB at a fairly reasonable price* If only I had discovered Amazon.de's extensive Darkwave-Gothik selection a few weeks ago, because then I'd have a number of Sonic Seduction musik samplers to take with me. Damn, sometimes I really wish I lived in Europe, because the darkwave scene is so much better there, especially in Germany. Even though I bet I'd be the only person there in Banana Republic attire. :P Sometimes I even amuse myself by how easily I can defy easy categorization.
Music post up later tonight, and maybe even a few reactions to the Season Finale of Project Runway at 10 pm. I'm rooting for Dan, but I'm sure Santino will win it all unless Dan can actually come up with enough detailing to tie his whole collection together more cohesively. Thank god he picked Nick to help him--what was Chloe thinking in picking whatshername Miss Cutie Pie? Diana, that's right. Seriously, Chloe would have been a lot better off with at least 5 people I can think of off-hand. Ah well, her loss, right?
