adventures in babysitting

I really liked that movie when I was about 10. Embarrassing. I have no business babysitting kids. Today I caught myself explaining my aesthetic theories to a 4 year old. Okay, I'm exaggerating, but we were making those things with the colored plastic beads that you arrange on a pattern of pegs, like stars, hearts, circles and then you iron over ( Read more... )

I agree with you, and I think it's important that kids come into contact with people whose ideas clash with their developing worldview. Apparently Tabea's mom has told her that she (the mom) is right about everything, so whenever I say something that contradicts what her mom has told her (which happens frequently), Tabea tells me that I am wrong because her mom blah blah. I'm trying to make her realize that the world is not as black and white as her mom and kindergarten present it to her, but she doesn't respect me enough to take my opinion very seriously. Nonetheless, perhaps it temporarily jolts her a bit. From a traditional parents' perspective, I am not the most appropriate person to be babysitting their kid.

I love that movie! I think I like it for all of the wrong reasons. The adventures are cheesy and funny. Elisabeth Shue looks too cute. And I like the movie for the silly romance--and the guy returning the girl's skate and then making out with the babysitter. Lovely.

I also love how they are running from hitmen or something. And then the blues club scene is pretty funny.

Aw, memories.
