yeah, exactly, the cultural studies professor went off on some tangent about people writing about modernity and the metropolis, and she was talking about baudelaire, and then she actually expected us to know where he went on walks with his turtle in paris. she doesn't seem to be able to distinguish between relevant and irrelevant information. if i had a choice i would quit going to that class.

Oh thank Elvis! I could kinda make sense of what that said, but I figured Google translation had blown a gasket when it was talking about a turtle.

It's a shame Baudelaire wasn't about 75 years later. You could've given a good dadaist answer and been done with it.

nein, violinen essen nicht häuser.

I like your answer to that question.
Google translation is hilarious. There is nothing more entertaining for a German teacher than receiving an essay that has been "composed" using Google translation. What I really love are the students who then have the audacity to deny it.

contemplative indeed. from what i gather it was in reaction to the speed and hectic nature of modern life in a city undergoing industrialization. i think it's really cool, actually. it was just so strange the way she placed so much emphasis on what i consider parenthetical information.
