ten bucks to anyone who can tell me why the freiburgers are setting off a huge fireworks display right now. most creative guess might also get a prize.
Many Freiburgers fled to Central and South America around WWII. As often happens when large groups of former neighbors leave for another continent, they ended up clustering in a few places over here, too. One of the largest groups was in Asunción, the capital of Paraguay, and their success in the new world actually helped finance the reconstruction of Freiburg after the war. So, clearly, the fireworks are in commemoration of May 14, Flag Day in Paraguay.
