Of British Wit and Chick Lit

I've become even more enamored with British wit and chick lit. Michael and I went on a used-DVD splurge a few weeks ago, with a tempting deal from a local video store. We bought the following titles:

The Matrix: Revolutions (finally completed our set!)

X2: X-Men 2 (Love it!)

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (Wow - literary characters as "action" heroes. How cool!)

Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, and Blond (meh, cute, but not as funny as the first one)

Love Actually (Yummy British stars all in a row!)

The Importance of Being Earnest (I loved this play in high school! And Colin Firth = yummy, even though he's being cast as a "father-figure" in movies nowadays. My crush is considered "old" by teens out there!!!)

So, by now we've watched most of them (the first 3 we saw in the theater and wanted to buy; the latter 3 we've just seen for the first time, since buying. Still haven't watched "Earnest" yet, but soon), and enjoyed them quite immensely. Last Friday night we popped in "Love Actually," prepared for a time roaring laughter at British wit. 'Twas a bit more dramatic than I had anticipated, but still followed through with the comedic wit. All in all, a fun film!

Now, I'm soaking up all the British humour I can get my hands on. I'm finally going to finish my half-read Bridget Jones' Diary, and try to get my hands on the sequel, Bridget Jones: Edge of Reason. I want more, more of this incredibly hilarious wit! I want Lizzy's (Elizabeth Bennett's) profound remarks throughout Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice - who says that something written that long ago can't be hilarious? I think I laughed harder throughout that book than I have at many so-called "funny" movies/books! More, I say! :o)
