Hmm.. I dunno about other readers but yeah, GoF was kinda good. The books that follows it on the other hand... Were just too bland and boring. I'd still say just read them, perhaps it's just my taste but...
Well, Rowling's magical world, despite the fame, isn't much more than a kids fantasy, okay, make it into young teen fantasy. There's too much things that just felt out of place. Not much sense of realism in its fantasy/magic picture.
Yes, it is quite funny how it because a hit--I agree. So far, I've found the movies rather pathetic compared to the books, which is saying something, since the books aren't all that great.
Rarely do I see a movie based on a novel that went really well, or at least, par-to-par with the novel. I seriously think they should stop making movies based on novels.
Voldemort got his wand back because Peter Pettigrew found it. Don't remember the details, but I'm fairly certain it'll be explained later.
Also, Voldemort really didn't use his wand for much. You figure, killing Harry's parents was his last act before his disappearance. When he possessed Quirrel, he/they used Quirrel's wand. Voldemort didn't really have enough of a physical body to do anything until the 4th book, and Pettigrew wasn't really going to use Voldemort's wand except when under order to do so. So it really did go unused all those years.

Funny, really, how it became such a big hit. -_-

That might explain why they couldn't read them.
he talks too much
But it's hard to make the protagonists win when your villain isn't a mouth-running idiot who gives all his secrets away. ):
