Why does this always seem to happen?

It's like every time my Sister takes off of work her errors or negligence to do something comes out of the woodwork and bites the rest of us in the ass.

Today sister took off because people were coming to inspect her apartment (I guess to make sure she and husband have not trashed the place in the month they have lived there).

Sister called earlier that the inspection was done and to see if I had started working on the payroll.  I said I was and she was like "oh, okay I'll just take the rest of the day off then" I had already resigned myself to having to do the work so I'm like "whatever".

While doing payroll I messed up one check (confused clients handwriting and marked a 4 instead of 9 resulting in a $5 difference).  Pointed out my mistake to Dad and checked that what I thought was the proper course of action to correct my mistake was indeed the proper course (payroll is evil in that you usually get one shot to get it right, make a mistake and it take 5 extra steps just to go back to try to correct it).  All in all Dad was pretty chill about the whole thing even nicely gave me advise to next time check a certain report to check the numbers add up right before I actually print the checks.

So not even a hour later I hear Dad making frustrated sounds and he calls me back to see an email he just received from a client.  Sister royally screwed up a direct deposit payroll she processed on Monday that was deposited today.

Here's the gist of what happen, client has payroll every other week employees are salaried.  One of client's employee's has been on maternity leave for the last few weeks. This pay check should  have had the last week of her maternity leave and either one weeks salary or no pay based on if employee came back to work or not.  Sister rather then double checking with the client whether the employee came back to work or not assumed she did and paid her the regular salary (which is two weeks pay) and one week paid time off.

Needless to say Daddy was pissed (this kind of careless stuff reflects very badly on him) not because she made a mistake but she didn't use common sense that should have told her that this didn't make sense.

Also Dad was annoyed because had pointed out to her before to be aware of the special situation, the client's email today indicated he emailed Sister twice and spoke to her over the phone about it and I even added to the client's payroll file a highlighted copy of an email Dad forwarded to me and sister last week indicating that the last week of paid time off would be the employees final week of pay until the employee returns to work.

So now I can't finish the payroll for today until dad is done correcting Sister's blunder (only one person can be in the software at once).

I really don't get why sister does not seem to get the fact that this is a big mistake, when we are doing payroll we are dealing with other peoples money.  You can't just throw other peoples money around, if something doesn't seem right ask questions find out what is going on.

wtf, feel free to ignore my ranting, real life
