The teams are directly against each other. For example, in your battle, it is you versus the other participant. The other battle icons do not matter - that part is only to determine the winner of that particular battle.

However, in the favorite icon part, it's everyone against everyone.

Does that help any?

For each team battle, you will vote for one participant. :)
