Heh.. my friend Dina (biochic.. you met her once at Judy and Kerry's a couple of years ago) has a friend who bought the Wii and they played Zelda on Sunday. FYI, they beat the first dungeon then and are doing sports next weekend. :) I'm going to ask her how long it took them to get that far in Zelda, just to force competition between you guys!

She was really excited about it and I heard two seperate descriptions of how it works last night. Oh, Dina..

Actually, I'm slightly underwhelmed by Zelda at this point. According to my Wii, it's the game I've played the least that I've purchased so far. From a game perspective, it's definitely the best game I purchased, but it just makes too poor usage of the Wii controller. I bought the Wii because of the new way to play, and Zelda just doesn't have that. My body doesn't get into it in the same way it does with the other games I have. Zelda will be the longest-lasting game that I own, I'm sure, but, because the bar has been raised by the Wii, it's no longer phenomenal. You don't move until there's sword-fighting, and the sword fighting is poorly implimented (you do specific swings depending upon factors other than how you move the remote, and, most importantly, you just hit "A" to do my favourite move in OoT. Now I don't even bother doing the jump-slash, because it's just no fun to do. Swinging the nunchuck is now my favourite attack, and I rarely did that one before--it just feels better to do ( ... )

I do agree that the implementation of the motion controller in Zelda could be better, but I do think it's still good. What's not mentioned at the start of the game are the additional motion sensing elements you find as the game goes on. For example, later on you can learn a Shield bash move (which is quite handy) and is performed by snapping the nunchuck forward quickly.

There's also a segment where you fly and navigate by poiter (which works quite nicely).

If for aiming the various long range weapons alone, it is worth it.

Frankly, if I were to have any complaints about the control, it's that I keep mixing up the B and Z buttons because of the N64, and I'm still getting used to buttons labeled 1, 2, - and +. But I'll live.
