Of course, the feel you've talked about is different from the one in my mind--the one I've been writing about. The feel you talk about is an impossible labyrinth, not that sort of surreal disorienting. If you went for the labyrinth feel, you could have more backtracking (because you're always reaching dead ends), but then the maze has changed ( ... )

Ah, I spotted a typo in my own work.

It's supposed to be 10-15 TILES, not screens. IE: 2 or 3 screens.

But I do agree with you on much of this. I haven't really developed the Endless adventure much because of the problem keeping the world feeling consistent. I believe it'd be possible to maybe do it in a more collected way; keep the areas consistent in their content but then mix up their landscape, maybe. It just doesn't seem as compelling an idea as the 'lost woods' feel of the other one.

I would like to find some way to convince players to wander back and forth in the forest though. perhaps impossible obstacles are the way. I think I might try using sound to provide interest on some other side of the screen, or enemies to dissuade the player from going in just one direction.

Hey ideas sound cool... I'm pretty tired right now and not able to think enough to make suggestions.

Also currently without internet... except when Ajae decides to share... so dont' expect to see me online much till next weekend when hopefully I gets me new laptop!
