Atheists and Agnostics Fast Growing Group in U.S.

Gay and a non-believer? You're not alone. When you think about all the destructive things that organized religion have done to us, it should be no surprise to any religious nutjob why we reject it out of hand. Even being an Asatruar is tough going at times when some Kindreds attract intolerant bunches who misinterpret the Troth. A group of us have ( Read more... )

I read that article and laughed as it described to me all these atheists getting together for picnics or whatever and discussing why they're atheists. Sounds a hell of a lot like what I do on Sunday mornings... but whatev. :)

I will happily argue with any Christian who picks ONE INSTRUCTION from Leviticus to condemn others by, yet happily ignores all of their own failings based on that book.

Leviticus is pretty strong stuff with lots of restrictions that most Christians don't bother to follow. As my friend Ron says: "what part of the New Testament negates the old Testament?"

Um...lots of it? There are multiple examples from Christ's sermons where he negates the law of Moses, and my understanding of current theology is that Christian belief is that by accepting Christ as the Messiah, we are accepting that the rituals and portents necessitated by the Old Testament have been fulfilled -- the Messiah has come. Therefore, we have Grace, we have been saved, and we no longer need to follow those old rituals. Our goal now is to live as Christ instructed us.

Keep in mind that I am *never* going to argue that the people running around shouting about gays and gay marriage and burn the queers and all that nonsense are actually living in the light of Christ. Most of my christian friends wouldn't, either.

As I was just telling a friend, one of the biggest problems with Atheists and Agnostics is that their arguements basically fall to, as I put it, "Cheezitz or No Cheezits, Pringles and DOritos are not an option". To me both are like being raised on Jello salad and CHOOSING to Beleive that since it didn't "Do" it for you that all other Desserts do not Exist...even if friends keep telling you about them....
Unfortunately, I haven't found Atheists much more pleasant to be around than Christians or Muslims. They say I'm Wrong, the "A's" tell me I'm nuts "Worshipping Cartoon Characters"....
Truth,
Pat

One of the biggest criticisms of Richard Dawkins is that he is an atheist fundamentalist. Of the dreary "you worship god, your stupid" variety.

That noise gets old too. Worshiping cartoon characters? You mean Thor? That's a drably ignorant statement.

To those people: look at my icon.

Yup. 'Course, I point out that Jesus is also found in cartoons for the Christians as well as on South Park;>

People always think that just because you don't fear God, you can't have a moral compass or whatever. I know what your getting at. I think the opposite is true. I belief the fear of God the bogeyman makes people crazy and they do crazy things like shoot abortion doctors, beat up gay people, and thing like that, that rational people think is immoral and outrageous.

Being moral has nothing to do with religion. It has to do with a good moral upbringing with parents as good examples and having the right stuff to do the right thing.
