I went to Crown this weekend, leaving Friday and returned early Sunday so I could get ready to go to the Theatre that night to see WICKED.  Crown was nice  but w-i-n-d-y!  If several kind gentles had not come forward to help me, there's no way I could have gotten my tent set up.  It took 3 of us to hold it down while dear Sven pounded in the pegs ( Read more... )

I started just day-tripping the closer events years ago. It's much less stressful, and I can't deal with too much stress.

Yes. I think I 'll be glad when I can hand over my Signet duties too. I only got one signature this weekend and wasn't able to deliver any scrolls that I've been carrying everywhere. That makes me feel like I'm not doing my job, thus stressing me.

Well, as you know, I tend to take my responsibilities seriously.

I wouldn't expect Wicked to have much in common with L. Frank Baum's writing because it's told from a point of view that Baum had no sympathy for. Not to mention that fact that Wicked has nothing to do with the Gold Standard.

Oh no, you misunderstand.

I did not expect it to be like Baum's writing. I had read the Gregory Maquire book that this play is based on and had expected the play to have more similarity to that. They kept the idea that Glinda and Elphaba (the supposedly wicked witch) had been friends, but I think the play missed all the deeper parts that were in the book. It's kind of a Disney version, I suppose.

Read the book, I think you might like it after you work your way though the first couple of chapters. I did.

BTW: The book is decidedly NOT a kid's story. The play is PG.

We have friends who are crazy about the musical. (The one who's spent significant time in free fall has the Wicked t-shirt that says "Defy Gravity," giving it a meaning it doesn't really have for anybody else.)

Yes, I thought of him too.

It is a fun musical. I just wish I'd saved the book till later, actually. I kept waiting for things to happen that did not. The singers were all so strong that I liked all the women's songs.
