The Krewe of Barkus is the dog parade that is sponsored by a bar owner in the French Quarter of New Orleans, where I was born an d raised. Unlike the usual mayhem and debauchery, the dog parade is often a fun time, as people usually drink and socialize in the street without getting too crazy, so it is a nice break from the action.
As for Kahoki, that is a case of good timing but poor spelling. When hotmail first came out, I thought I would be clever and secure the name of a ravishing demon from Legend of the Demonwomb, a very intense Japanese animie. At the time, I didn’t realize that the demon’s name was actually spelled KOHOKI until 2000 when I watched it through to the credits. By that time, a couple of people have pointed out that the Kahokies were a tribe of mound building Native American Indians in the Illinois area.
