Pfft!

RSJS has already come, seen & conquered the London Steampunks (he won best dressed at a Vampire vs Steampunk night). The dj had a great time trying to source 'steampunk' music. With the flounces, lace and victoriana, steampunks are the new trad goffs (and emo being the new baby bats).

I am all for it due to the ingenuity & design in costume, the recycling aspect & victorian anglophilia.

The only annoyance for me is the need some have for 'persona development' - dancing towards the odder end of the spectrum - where it goes beyond the aesthetics and into 'otherlings'.

If one more person calls themselves Airship Engineer Peabody I might have to beat them with their pocket watch!

Hence why I said it contains the disturbing elements of the SCA. "Whyfore sir I am the knight Sir Wanksalot!"

I love the fashion.. but the persona thing creeps me out.

Why do LARPers have to ruin everything?

Richard and myself shall have to hit this scene hard when we visit. :)

I wanna play too!

aaaand, apparently it is the everyman genre because there is no age or size limit for dressing steampunk.

Not that there seemed to be for goths*, but at least this way there is a bit less flesh showing.

*especially in London - cyber, industrial & trad pretty much covering everything.

I'm sorry the pocket watch I got you just doesn't compare...I just don't have that sort of excess cash *hangs head in shame* you know if I did, that watch would be yours!

Cellphones were the new watches, now hopefully pocketwatches will be the new cellphones. Steampunk is alas the new LARPing - as if you're not playing the role of some turn-of-the-century adventurer and waving a spray-painted waterpistol about, you're just someone with cogs on your lapel for no good reason.

How uncouth... No, watches were replaced by cellphone clocks, now cellphones will get tossed for silly headsets and again we'll need time in our pockets so fob watches are full of win.
