After much consideration I've decided to go back to Japan.
The classes are boring, and I'd rather study by myself than around a bunch of losers. So I'm saying goodbye to this pitiful place. And it's about time too.
Seto locked the keys on his blackberry before thrusting it back into his pocket, cursing the fact that his hands were now shaking and his heart had fallen through the floor. The moment he'd lost Atem, he'd lost the will to even live - not that he'd ever be considered cowardly enough to even consider ending his own life. And since he'd promised to never drink himself into a stupour again, there was only one recourse: to feel every ounce of that cold weighted emptiness that had taken the place of Atem's warmth within his mind.
He sat by the fountain, looking up at the stars for some sort of guidance, and found them severely lacking. Seto hadn't realised just how much it hurt on his own - especially after figuring out for himself that he couldn't live without his Pharaoh.
He wasn't gay. Not by a long shot. And that's what he'd needed to figure out for himself ever since Akefia had taken that deep swipe out of his self esteem. And he had by kissing the only person he thought he could trust outside Atem and Yuugi - Jounouchi. The kid was sweet in his own way, and had the potential for being masculine outside his puppy exterior and was the perfect target....no, scratch that. He wasn't a target this time.
He was a mistake. An experiment. He was the signpost lit up in the otherwise darkness of his soul and he owed the blonde a great deal more than just the dinner he'd had with the teen.
Seto stared at his hands a moment, toying with the gold band around his finger and knowing it would be the everlasting reminder of what he could never have heart and soul. Edward had told him earlier that the blue-eyes ring had been left in his room and that for him sealed the deal. Atem wasn't taking him back.
So his escape was what was on the CEO's mind; wanting it to be as low key as possible in order to hide the shame of his defeat and not be seen as running away in anyone's eyes. He was simply giving the only person he cold ever love the space he needed to live a full and worthwhile life.
At least he was certain of his path now.
With his hands still steadfast in his pocket, Seto stood and looked to the gates of the school. He didn't care about the rain or the cold water rolling under his shirt and down his spine; no. He simply cared about walking away with the last remaining dignity at his disposal and promise to do anything to make sure his lover succeeded.
Seto Kaiba was meant to be alone.
