I've talked about IF before (I should probably dig up that post to link, but I'm kinda lazy), but a new IF game by Emily Short was just released called Alabaster. Basically it's a quasi-retelling of Snow White, except Snow White isn't exactly what she seems. "Beating" the game is pretty short, but there are 18 different endings of varying ( Read more... )

IF is essentially a text adventure, but I guess interactive fiction sounds groovier.

Yeah, I've been using Python a lot more lately, both for Google Summer of Code and work and fun.

And I missed the post about the tattoo. Persona related isn't bad, so long as it isn't like a character, some of the demons would be cool, as would some of the other symbols and such.

The Persona face thing would be pretty interesting, I mean, it's not obviously video game related, and it looks pretty neat.

Heh, I still suck when it comes to computer hardware.

It's a bit different than choose your own adventure books, but similar, basically you can ask about certain topics, do things like move/get/put/etc, but some are more based on puzzles, others on dialogue. So it can range from something like King's Quest, just with text, to simulating/playing through a conversation. Alabaster has a little bit of a tutorial mode as well.

I went through it once, and it was interesting, waiting for 'shelle to get back before getting real in depth with it, since she'd probably like it more than I would.

I played through to my first ending (which was pretty interesting). Despite multiple endings, it seems like this would get repetitive pretty quick. At some point, the player is just going to be retreading large areas of the story.

My first time through, I played it almost purely from a self-interest motivation, with some mixed results (some instant-gratification short-term good is done, but it lays a hard future ahead for the characters/kingdom). I think next time I'll try complete loyalty to the queen and see what dark path that leads me down.
