SUPERNATURAL BIG BANG: Art Post!
IT IS FINALLY TIME.
Our spn_j2_bigbang posting date is here. My very first Big Bang! Time went by faaaaaaaaaar too quickly, but it was always awesome and I think you guys will see beyond this lj-cut the largest amount of art that I personally have managed to produce in one continuous go since like, forever. APPARENTLY I CAN ONLY WORK UNDER STRESS 'n DEADLINES lolol. Some large images beyond the cut, mind your dial-up (if anybody still uses dial-up nowadays??).
THE TITLE BANNER:
TA-DAAA! I choose laulan's lovely fairy-tale J2 AU to illustrate, and boy was there ever a bevvy of interesting scenes to choose from. There is magic! Romance! Amnesia (+FLASHBACKSSSS)! A MAGICAL JOURNEY/QUEST with action and excitement, and a lovely supporting cast of fun and well-realized characters (and kickass ladiessss). I had an utter ball always reading along with what was being written and the end result is pretty much icing on a five-tiered cake that has been already slathered in awesomesauce and dusted with sprinkles of win. SO GO READ IT ALREADYYY! This post will still be here~
THE IN-FIC ILLU:
A larger version of the in-fic illustration! I admit, the mention of a kingdom of birds in the teaser summary is what hooked me to this fic at first, and I fell even more in love with the idea the moment I got to have a ~sneak peak~ at laulan's drafts. And then obsession set in and I spent far too much time planning out all the outfits and details. I would say I even neglected uni work for that, but it would be a lie because I'd do that anyways lol. So worth it though, BECAUSE IT WAS SO MUCH FUN ♥. PEACOCK KING, I TOTES WANT IN ON YOUR HAREM. Or at least to come to your parties. Re: bird design, Mr. Crane dude with his red cravat and grey suit is also a personal favorite :D
EDITED TO ADD: This is probably due to sloppy hairstyle-design on my part, but the Peacock King is not(!) Jared, though that probably would've been a interesting twist on the whole scene... His alternate universe evil twin?? Actually I meant to make the PK Tom Welling at first before I realized that that was kinda hard to do, so he now just looks like. Well, this. ^^

OF COURSE THERE ARE ALSO CHIBIS:
CHIBIS! Because when it comes down to it, it is more than obvious where I draw my artistic influences from and fffffff I just like drawing em! But mainly I wanted to draw Jared in a pretty pink princess dress going "FML." Because who wouldn't?? Aaaand the rest bloomed out from that point.

THINGS I HAVE LEARNED:
-Shading is not as scary as you think! When in doubt, HALF-ASS IT, BABYYY.
-Self, you are such a slow arteeest, goddamn.
-THERE CAN NEVER BE TOO MANY BRIGHT COLORS AND THICK LINES and trying to go against my personal urge to draw like that never ends well (at least when I am trying to keep to a deadline).
-Photoshop gives one the cold shoulder at first, but spend enough time at the altar of trying to draw decent and she takes you back into the fold. At least for a while *sob*.
FIRST I'D LIKE TO THANK THE ACADEMY...:
Firstly, mucho thanks go to my lovely partner in crime laulan of course, for writing such a delightful fic and being a joy to work with. I could imagine no other author to share my first Big Bang with and spam too much on gmail, it was a helluva lot of fun and seriously, she is about the most helpful person ever-- art refs! Exploring DaFont.com for me! Bird pictures! Artsy fairytale pics that I oooh-ed and aah-ed over and sadly didn't end up emulating lolol whoops-- and also very forgiving of my tendencies to suddenly forget to answer emails for days at a time. AHHH ♥ ♥
ALSO a big thanks to some RL people who will never read this because they should never know what I precisely do on the internet: my uni BFF Carmen who had a lot of helpful tips and my buddy Wido, both of whom were also extremely chill in the face of my probably suspicious and ever-changing explanations of what I was showing them ("...it's for something on the internet. You know. This thing. That people do, and I'm doing now too. Uhhh howdoesthepiclookthough??"). On the cusp of RL and El Jay, cheshire_tabby was additionally v. patient in listening to my whining.
