My understanding is that properly made kevlar gear is more resistant to abrasion than leather and less prone to degrading over time and wear. For impact padding and armor are more relevant and thus unrelated to the material. The "properly made" is obviously very relevant, but the same applies to leather gear.
So theres nothing to worry about regarding the material itself, product reviews of your particular gear would probably be more useful than any generalization.
