Our dryer was not unfixable after all! We just did not think to risk breaking the correct parts of the thing. Let's hear it for being able to do laundry in-house!

Well, strictly speaking, you could've washed stuff and then hung it up, or, if you were feeling particularly insane, taken wet clothes to the laundromat to finish the cycle. But that would've been stupid.

In any case, it is good that your dryer is functional.

Does it still do the loud housequaking rumbling thing, or did this fix finally put an end to that nonsense?

That's the washer, actually, and the problem there is a fault in our loading procedures, not anything mechanical with the washing machine itself.
