Carina is a licensed practical nurse, and casual is per diem I believe, she just gets called in and can accept or reject shifts.

2L from one lung wow! We mostly deal with malignant pleural effusions on Onc, and often they will put in a pleurex catheter so they can be drained intermittently.

I have wondered if there is something worse going on (malignancy? I have no idea) but I guess I'm pretty realistic. At 90 and beyond, it's a fair assumption that something could go wrong.
