Wow I've been horrible about updating this.
The biggest news so far is that I may have gotten a receptionist job at the local hospital. It's no library job, and it's per diem whenever they need me, but at least it'll keep me going until I find a job in my field.
Today I got a bunch of books from the local library, too.
I got two books of stories by Vladimir Nabokov, because I heard that his prose is quite poetic and I wanted to at least try to read Lolita. Well, I certainly tried, but I had to stop halfway through the first part because the protagonist's passionate confessions of love for the twelve-year-old object of his desire were actually making me nauseous. The prose was beautiful, but I think I'll stick to the stories that don't deal with pedophilia, kthnx. :/
I also got The Thief of Always by Clive Barker at
tunasaladsonnet 's recommendation. You were right, Tuna-- that book is amazing and I completely devoured it within a few hours. I don't think I've ever read Clive Barker's books before, but now I'm eager to get back to the library and check out a few more of them.
Uh, let's see... what else? Oh! Also got into
Sayonara, Zetsubou Sensei ("Goodbye, Mr. Despair") a few days ago. Tuna's fault again, of course. Oh my god, that anime is so cracktacular and hilarious and surprisingly beautiful. If you're okay with the idea of attempted suicides being mocked (and trust me, the title character is so over-the-top that it's hard not to laugh at him) or anime cliches in general being mocked, then you should definitely check it out. Heck, you should still check it out for the gorgeous art and the breathtaking music.
...I've really gotta stop waiting until I have to make a long-ass post just to keep up with what's going on. XD
