Jerry at that's Beijing just forwarded me an e-mail sent to the magazine in response to a facetious column I did a few months back lampooning the Nigerian 419 e-mail scam with my own Chinese version, appended below. Here's the letter: Article: Your Most Urgent Attention is Needed ( Read more... )

I saw it in That's Beijing! :P

But I get a half a dozen of those emails every day from my graffiti.net account. I actually wrote a really angry email back once because I was so angry. I think the most common word was "fuck."

So anyway, I'm leaving Tuesday, so just wanted to say "Bye!" Best of luck to you and your family.

You're leaving? Bummer! Hope you come back and visit some time, and that you keep in touch through LJ or some other way! Great meeting you and good luck in school. I envy you - starting college (something I did 20 years ago!) was a wonderful time in my life.

You're going to follow up on this, right? zhwj June 18 2004, 21:09:30 UTC
Think about it--string the guy out until you've collected enough for a college fund, retirement nest egg, new rig, and then convincingly claim everything got lost in the bank-reorg prior to listing on NASDAQ. What could go wrong?

One step ahead of you. I've already got the guy signed up for sever pyramid schemes I've hatched, sold him several gen-U-ine Shang bronzes, and will be transferring title to the Marco Polo Bridge to him once his funds reach my Zurich account.

if you like 419 scams... anonymous June 21 2004, 22:43:24 UTC
then you'll love this site: www.419eater.com

Basically it's run by a guy who pretends to be interested in the scam, and in doing so gets the scammer to do stupid things, and waste money and time. Highly amusing :-)
