Dinner conversations in my family revolve invariably around politics (when we're not talking about the personal lives of those sibs regrettably not present, and yes, there was plenty of that over turkey last night too). After we were through with the post mortem on poor John Kerry, my younger brother Jay took me to task for the "rooting for China" ( Read more... )

Nope, not going to make it to the East Coast this time. But you'll be back in Beijing soon enough, yes? I'm going to be here longer than originally planned: probably not going back to Beijing until after Christmas it's looking like. How're things in Philly? Watch CBS morning news on Sunday morning 'cause I'm supposed to be on it, pontificating on lazi ji and other Sichuan food. They shot Chunqiu playing Tianxia too so we might be on too.

Hey - watched/recorded it this morning. What happened?

Cool that you're staying longer. I'm getting into Beijing on 28 Dec., and will be leaving on 16 Jan., and will probably stay in town for a few days following/preceding those dates.

Yeah, I watched too from a hotel room in Flagstaff, Arizona. Nothing. Maybe next Sunday? The guy definitely told me that it would be on. Big loss of face! Fanfan had me spazzing out in terror after warning me that I would almost assuredly look really fat on TV. We're in Tucson now, and it's lovely here as I remember. Went to my old junior high today and found my Spanish teacher, who was totally hot back then as a 28 year old. 23 years later she still looks great and remembered me and my sibs very well. Been eating all sorts of great Mexican food...

what are your plans for Chicago? I agree that a stable business environment is important, but I don't think China even has that right now, too many problems in the banking industry and too many falsified reports by both companies and the government is going to lead to major problems...
