Work and more work. Can't say it's not rewarding though: I'm right proud of some of the pieces I've done for this big forthcoming cover package and I look forward to reaction from RH readers. Wrote on semiconductors for the first time, really. An interesting little factlet: China exports about 90% of the chips it produces, and at the same time ( Read more... )

Are you being sarcastic about not knowing anything about second language acquisition?
From what I've seen of language schools in Beijing,(including Wall Street) and being a psychology graduate, I wouldn't send my child to any of them. Can you not teach her?
Still, perhaps better than nothing.

Actually -- not that there's any reason you should know this -- it's my wife and not my baby going to English school. She seems to like it, and lots of big multinationals seem to send their staff there as well. I'm teaching my baby.

Nope, not being at all sarcastic. My Chinese was acquired largely through osmosis, English is my native language, and Japanese and Spanish were abject failures in second language acquisition for me. So seriously, I have very little knowledge of how to go about it. I'm the worst explainer about English grammar ever.

I didn't mean to cause offence. But I see so many parents wasting their money on these dodgy schools heartbroken that their children have progressed so little and believing whatever stories about slow learning and how they should sign their child up for new and improved programmes..

It's actually an article on the whole gamut of telecoms and tech in China from the perspective fo foreign companies selling into China. There's a "macro story" which includes overviews of the semi industry, the handset biz, the telecoms networking equipment market and the PC hardware market, then profiles on five under-the-radar companies selling into China successfully. It will be in the April 25 edition of Red Herring, which should come out some time the week of April 18. Big cover package. If you want, e-mail me kaiser -at- sinica.com and I can give you a peek.
