David Eddings has passed away at the age of 77.

Wow. I kind of feel like I just got punched in the gut. The Belgariad was one of the first epic fantasy series I ever read (along with Terry Brooks' Shannara books). I grew up on them, and it kindled my life-long love of fantasy. I also read The Malloreon, The Elenium, and The Tamuli, and those ( Read more... )

That is heartbreaking news. Draickin and I both are huge fans (we have an entire shelf dedicated to them). He will definitely be missed.

I hadn't heard -- that's a bummer. But gee whiz, I had no idea he was 77! Not that I knew the slightest thing about his life, but if you'd asked, I'd have thought he was in his early 60s. I don't begrudge anyone having had a really good life by 77.

The only time I was disappointed with their work was the Althalus book (check out my Amazon review on that one when the pain has passed, I believe it's still starred over there).

My first online handle was Prince Kheldar, or Silk when I didn't want to be too obvious about who was trolling for guys... That should tell you how I felt about their work.

David, you will be missed!
