LJ is sneaky, so you probably wouldn't notice unless (like me) you were running Firefox with the NoScript add-on, which is designed to prevent strange scripts from running without your permission. And likely you didn't click any links during the first version of the code. The code was horribly written, so it would hijack links not only to "ebay.com" but any link ending in -bay.com, so it broke a lot of outgoing links. That's how people started noticing what was going on.
